February 2023 SVJP Executive Roundtable with Alex Stamos

On February 20 (US time) / February 21 (Japan time), the Silicon Valley Japan Platform hosted an Executive Roundtable at the International House of Japan in Tokyo with Alex Stamos, Founding Director of the Stanford Internet Observatory and Founding Partner of Krebs Stamos Group.

Mr. Stamos analyzed one of the most important geopolitical events in this new era of global multipolarity, the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He covered the significant role open-source intelligence from citizens played in the breakdown of Russia’s communication, significantly hampering the effectiveness of their invasion, why Japan remains a target for industrial espionage from China, and why the increasingly tense situation in Taiwan is moving the U.S.-China relationship towards a dangerous direction. Mr. Stamos concluded his session by addressing how multinational companies should prepare for these heightened geopolitical risks now before a crisis takes place.

During the Q&A session, several questions were asked by members attending both in-person and online about the U.S.-China war scenario, the process of withdrawing from China operations, and measures corporations should take to strengthen their cybersecurity.
